Gaelic Games Experience

Experience Gaelic Games is a hands-on activity which explains the cultural phenomena of Gaelic Games.

It’s full of fun and laughter and an ideal break out activity for conference groups. It’s suitable for both genders and all ages –it’s the most memorable, authentic and fun Irish experience visitors can have.

The indigenous Gaelic Games of Gaelic Football and Hurling are an international cultural phenomena in Ireland they are far more important than just sport. They typify what it means to be Irish – that’s why the governing body is the largest amateur sporting body in the world and why the finals attract more live spectators than the 2013 Superbowl!

Day time activities include:

A personally delivered introduction to the history and importance of Games in Ireland. (The introduction features video clips of football and Hurling games which has up to 82,500 spectators.)

Your group will get to play Gaelic Football and Ladies Gaelic Football (Including fun team building challenges)

And also a chance to take part in the worlds’ oldest and fastest game on grass – Hurling (Great fun and perfect photo opportunity!)games

Evening Participation Activities include:

Irish Ceili Dancing lessons – (Superb Ice Breaker for large groups)

An introduction on how to play a Bodhrán (Irish Drumming for the more sedate groups!)

Day 1-   Dublin Arrivalirish dance

  •  Transfer from Dublin Airport to The  Hotel by private deluxe coach and Rep Assistance.
  • Hospitality Desk Staff (Optional but recommended on Arrival Day)
  • Option afternoon guided walking/coach tour of Dublin City with professional rep assistance.
  • Evening with a Traditional Irish Night Welcome Dinner at the Hotel
  • Two Young Girls dressed in Traditional Irish Costume to Hand Posies to the Ladies on arrival as they enter the pre-dinner reception area. The Bar or pre-function area of The Hotel will be decorated with Irish Memorabilia.  A group of traditional musicians provide background entertainment from slow haunting airs to lively jigs and reels the guests are in no doubt that they are in Ireland. At the coffee stage the balladeers liven up the tempo and sing a selection of well known Irish songs.

Overnight in Dublin 4/5* Hotels

 Day 2 –   Depart  for farm day – Great fun day!!

 Today the group will travel to the Farm  for a fun day of team building activities.

  • 10.00am Arrival at The Causey Farm
  • First of all arrive to an Irish Welcome on the Farm. Then you can enjoy some Tea/Coffee and Home Made Scones and you will also have a demonstration of how to make brown bread and scones
  • 10.45am After your refreshments Clamber aboard the tractor and come with us to cut the turf – catch the sods of peat (winter fuel) as they amilkre thrown from the sleán (special tool for cutting turf).
  • 11.15am Continue on to Milk the cow in the cowsheds. See how long it takes you to fill the bucket!!
  • 11.45am Next try your hand at hurling this is an age old traditional Irish sport and is arguably the world’s fastest field team sport in terms of game play. One of Ireland’s native Gaelic Games. The object of the game is for players to use a wooden axe-shaped stick called a hurl (in Irish a “camán”, pronounced kam-awn), or a hurley, to hit a small ball
  • called a sliotar between the opponents’ goalposts either over the crossbar for one point, or under the crossbar into a net guarded by a goalkeeper for three points!!
  • 12.15pm Learn to play the bodhrán. The Bodhran is the heartbeat of Irish music. This ancient hand held drum is traditionally made with a wooden body and a goat-skin head, and is played with a double-headed stick called a cipín, tipper, or beater. The modern Irish word bodhrán is properly pronounced bow-rawn, Beat out the rhythm of the jigs and reels on this Irish goat-skin drum
  • 12.45pm Enjoy a sumptuous home-made lunch on the Causey Farm, while some of the musicians play tune or two.
  • 2.00pm After lunch, learn to dance an Irish Jig and an Irish Reel. These are two different types of Irish dances. By the end of the day, you could be as good as the Riverdancers!!
  • 3.00pm Enjoy an Irish Coffee prior to your departure and hop on your coach to return to Dublin.

In the evening . It’s a traditional Irish night!

 Day 3 –  Depart at 8:00 from Dublin Hotel.

Visit: Rock of Cashel ,Jameson Distillery Midelton, Engligh Markets in Cork.Continue onwards to Killarney.

Dinner/ Overnight –  Banquet dinner at 5* Hotel.

Day 4 –  Ring of Kerry

Depart from the hotel for your full day Ring of Kerry Tour. This is one of the most breath-taking coastal tours in Europe, encircling the Iveragh Peninsula passing through Killorglin, scene of the famous Puck Fair which takes place over three days every August. Continue to the noted seaside resort of Glenbeigh and the coastal scenery of Dingle Bay comes into view. Every turn in the road seems to offer a unique vista.

A stop will be made for you to enjoy a sheepdog demonstration followed by morning coffee at a nearby pub.crystal

Continue to Cahirciveen, situated at the head of Valentia Harbour, which is the capital of the Iveragh Peninsula. It was in this small town that Daniel O’Connell ˜The Liberator’, who fought for Catholic emancipation, was born. On this part of your journey you will have marvellous view of Valentia Island as well as the ancient monastic Skellig rocks a few miles out to sea. Continue to Waterville, situated on the Atlantic Shore and was popular as a Victorian and Edwardian resort and angling centre.

Enjoy Traditional Irish  lunch.

From here, you drive over the Coomakista Pass that offers a breath-taking vantage point over the peninsula, the islands and the Atlantic Ocean. Proceed through the charming villages of Caherdaniel and Sneem to Windy Gap and Ladies View – probably the best point from which to view the Killarney Lakes.

Return to hotel late afternoon for some rest and relaxation.

What we would suggest this evening is to do an evening Dine-Around sampling the local cuisine. Starting with drinks reception at the hotel. Recommended places upon request.
